Designing for a hobby

car vinyl wrapsOkay so this is kinda cool and, yes, it’s a bit of a brag, but a friend of mine recently asked me to create a design for his car. He’s planning to get it wrapped before he goes on this big race thing in Queensland and he wants it to look awesome, so he came to me for ideas. How crazy is that? I mean, obviously, I’m not exactly a real designer. Not even ‘not exactly’ I’m not a designer. Period. He knows that, but he also knows that in my free time I love to think creatively and daydream up designs. It’s kind of like a weird hobby.

Anyway, he’s shown me a couple of different car wraps in Melbourne that he’s just seen randomly in the city and taken a photo of so I can get a little inspiration, but I have a couple of pretty cool things up my sleeve. I’m thinking some kind of big cat style, like leopard print or tiger stripes, just to spice it up a little. Of course, I’m not really sure exactly what all these companies are capable of, which is why I need to talk to them about their specific capabilities, but I’m sure we can get something awesome worked out.

At the same time, I’m also kind of thinking it would be cool to do something a little different than your average car wrap (not that any car wrap is average, but still). I was looking into it, and it looks like you can do wraps that have different textures. There’s even a couple of companies that can do a car vinyl wrap in Melbourne, so that’s definitely worthwhile looking into. There are just so many different options, even though it’s just a bit of a hobby-project, I’m really enjoying looking into it all.
